Jennie Garth portrayed the character Valerie Tyler (referred to as Val commonly) in the series. She is a taskmaster who plans everything to the last move. While working in a public relations firm Harper and Diggs, she dated with Jeff for one year. He was her boyfriend in the series. The relation broke up when he revealed his dissent to marry her. After him she dated with her boss Vic. But the relation didin't last long due to her mixed feeling about her new boss Peter. She got confused with feelings and was not able to reset or finalise the decision that led to its end. Peter left to Italy before a relation was able to develop between them. His unexplained departure agonised her a lot. She was in mind to leave the job and finally quit Harper & Diggs to start a new public relations firm with her co-worker/friend Lauren.
Val reunited with her old high school friend Rick, the role played by Edward Kerr. Rick was engaged with Julie, a girl of nothing common with Rick. Rick bailed from the wedding ceremony with Julie, realizing his feeling for Val. It seems that both of them got engaged only to cancel their wedding ceremony after discovering the commitment fears of Rick.
She found that her PR business fell apart thanks to Lauren. This led her to buy a bakery. She realised that she had got married to Vic after a drunken night. She was really frustrated and pushed him away because of scary thoughts to get hurt. But both of them fell in love after a deep kiss. Eventhough both of them were got married initially, it was not valid so far. Eventually Val and Vic got married for real. It was in the day of wedding, Holly, Tina, Lauren, and Val got trapped in a spa by an escaped convict. After a series of events, Holly and Val escaped on a horse back to be a part of wedding.
She has always shown a motherly affection to her younger sister, Holly. Later she wanted to be cool sister!
